Delegates from Great Lakes states in the U.S. House of Representatives are pushing back against a Trump administration proposal to eliminate $300 million in Great Lakes environmental cleanup funding from the 2018 budget. In a letter sent to the House appropriations leadership, 23 Republicans and 40 Democrats in Congress requested that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) be funded at its fully authorized level in next year's Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.
