This non-partisan event is designed to celebrate, encourage, support and spotlight African American women who serve in all phases of Michigan’s political landscape.

Mayor Mike Duggan's administration officially submitted a $250 million bond proposal to remove remaining residential blight from Detroit by mid-2025 to the Detroit City Council on Monday, according to documents obtained by the Free Press. Total possible spending on blight removal, including funds outside the bond proposal, could be as high as $420 million, Duggan said.

As Jimmy Aldaoud, a Detroit refugee found dead in Iraq after his deportation, was laid to rest Friday back in Michigan, family members gathered and dressed in black had no words to describe their grief. "I can't fathom what has happened," Rita Aldaoud, sister of the refugee, told The Detroit News earlier this week.

As Congress argues over the 2020 defense authorization bill, there is one issue that should provide common ground: the benefits of investing in women’s contributions to security.
