On the heels of Mother’s Day, Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) joined U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Tina Smith (D-MN) today to re-introduced legislation to expand healthcare options for expectant mothers.
Michigan’s state lawmakers are joining a national effort to change federal laws regarding marijuana banking. Tuesday state Reps. Yousef Rabhi, D-Ann Arbor, and Jim Lilly, R-Park Township, as well as state Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr., D-East Lansing, said they planned to introduce concurrent resolutions urging Congress to pass the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act.
The dad noticed blood in his wife’s catheter shortly after a routine C-section procedure. He mentioned his concern to hospital staff who said she would get a CT scan. A renewed effort to amend federal foster care funding rules, and nudge states toward a recently passed reform package, has gained its first Republican endorsement.
Nationally, the Census Bureau plans to cut the number of local offices in half compared to 2010, with workers condensed into fewer offices. The bureau also expects to hire fewer enumerators — the staff who do the follow-up work when people don’t respond to census information requests — than in 2010.

WASHINGTON — For U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, the political fight over insurance coverage for those with pre-existing conditions hits close to home. The Holly Democrat said her mother died of ovarian cancer in 2011 after suffering from breast cancer when she was a young mother in her 30s.
