Everyone's talking about the porn star paid off by Trump's lawyer. How does this matter?
Stormy Daniels is taking President Donald Trump to court. The porn star at the center of a presidential sex scandal filed a lawsuit against Trump on Tuesday, alleging that he never signed a nondisclosure agreement that she agreed to in exchange for $130,000. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, charges that the agreed-upon gag order about her "intimate" relationship with Trump is invalid because, while both she and Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen signed the agreement, Trump never did. In December, House Democrats called for an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Trump. “The #MeToo movement has arrived and sexual abuse will not be tolerated, whether it’s by a Hollywood producer, the chef of a restaurant, a member of Congress or the president of the United States,” Rep. Lois Frankel of Florida said at the time. “No man or woman is above the law.” “I’m sorry, Mr. President, you do not live under a different set of rules,” said Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan.
