Local leaders including embattled UAW President Rory Gamble and the late former Congressman John Conyers Jr. are among those to be honored this month at an event hosted by Rev. Jesse Jackson that honors the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The Let Freedom Ring Awards, scheduled on the MLK Day holiday Jan. 20 at Fox Theatre in Detroit, will also honor Maureen Taylor, chair of the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and the late Detroit News Editor and Publisher Jonathan Wolman, who died in April. The four awardees will be honored for furthering the legacy of King, according to a news release.
