A look back at top stories of 2018 in Macomb County

The untimely end of Karen Spranger’s shortened stint as county clerk, copy cat threats by teens targeting county schools and the “Me Too” movement were all major news stories in 2018. However, none of those managed to top the aggravation motorists endured trying to make their way across Macomb County this year as the roads were, putting it mildly, a mess. Recently, a group of Macomb Daily reporters and editors met to vote on the top 10 news stories of 2018. Debbie Stabenow, held on to her U.S. Senate seat, and will head to Washington where she, Debbie Dingell and Brenda Lawrence, who also won re-election, will be joined by three new female Democratic representatives including Elissa Slotkin, Haley Stevens and Rashida Tlaib. At the state level, voters elected more women to the ranks of both the state House of Representatives and Senate, and re-elected incumbent Elizabeth Clement along with newcomer Megan Cavanagh to the state Supreme Court.
