Michigan's U.S. House Democrats weighed in on the upcoming race for Michigan governor Monday, coalescing around candidate Gretchen Whitmer to endorse her for the nomination. U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell, D-Southfield, Dan Kildee, D-Flint Twp., Sandy Levin, D-Royal Oak, and Brenda Lawrence, D-Southfield, said at a press conference in Taylor Monday morning that they thought Whitmer was the best choice to give Democrats an edge in the November general election. "After years and years here of one-party rule, we need a candidate who can break that year after year domination," Levin told a group of Whitmer supporters. "She has what it takes."  Kildee, who last year considered a run for governor before ultimately deciding to run for reelection in Congress, said his decision was made easier knowing that a candidate like Whitmer was in the race.
