Program to support environment in Southeast Michigan launched with $3.9 million commitment

A new public-private grant program that aims to improve green stormwater infrastructure and natural habitats has been launched with a three-year, $3.9 million funding commitment. The Southeast Michigan Resilience Fund was launched by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation with corporate, nonprofit and federal support, according to a Monday announcement at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. Community leaders and politicians including U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence attended the event, according to a news release. A request for proposals from organizations throughout Southeast Michigan was issued in tandem with the announcement. Grants are to be awarded in two categories: "expanding green storm water infrastructure and enhancing public space" and "improving habitat quality, connectivity and accessibility," the release said. They are due Dec. 11.
