Waters Rips Federal Budget Plan, Cabinet
Faced with a proposed federal budget she’s deemed “absolutely unacceptable,” U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters vowed Friday she and her colleagues on Capitol Hill are working to fight it. “The skinny budget that has been presented to us is absolutely unacceptable,” Waters said during a news conference in Detroit. “It is not good for this country.” The California Democrat discussed national politics and hot-button issues during an appearance with former Haitian first lady Mildred Aristide at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The 78-year-old Democrat represents the 43rd Congressional District of California and is considered the senior African-American woman serving in Congress. Some of her Friday remarks focused on Michigan. Waters praised U.S. representatives Brenda Lawrence and Dan Kildee for supporting efforts to aid residents affected by the Flint water crisis.
