Winter Resource Fair held to assist residents
(WJBK) - The temperatures are beginning to drop, which means it's that time again to start prepping our homes and communities for the fall and winter seasons.
Rep. Brenda Lawrence hosted a Winter Resource Fair to bring together 14th District constituents with local agencies, organizations and companies that can assist residents in preparation for the fall and winter seasons. This includes helping residents with applications for reduced utility bills, as well as affordable housing needs and food assistance.
Lawrence recognizes the importance of having these resources during the cold weather.
"So winter is coming, and the best thing to do is prepare. I've heard some heartbreaking stories in the past, of people actually becoming at risk and some even dying because they didn't have heat, their water was being turned off, or they're being evicted and they have issues with a job," said Lawrence. "Those of us that have the severe winters, we have an additional respobsibility, and that's why I'm bringing this resource to my district here and to all the surrounding neighborhoods. So let's come together and take care of each other so that we can have a winter that we've survived and a winter that we have the resources to be successful."
There are two numbers people can call for assistance: the Detroit office, 313-423-6183, or the Southfield Office, 248-356-2052.
