WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (MI-14) today issued the following statement regarding the recent death of Rev. Nicholas Hood, Sr.
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Rev. Nicholas Hood, Sr. Rev. Hood has served as one of the finest examples and inspirations for so many Detroiters like myself. His lifelong dedication to social justice and commitment to Detroit and public service, including his nearly 30 years on the Detroit City Council, was never in doubt. Detroit has suffered a devastating loss with his passing. We will, however, be forever grateful and better for his work on behalf of the most deserving and most vulnerable members of our community. Let us all take his example of selflessness and compassion to heart and use his shining example as a guide to continue to make Detroit, and Michigan, better for all of its citizens. I extend my deepest condolences to Rev. Hood’s family and friends in their time of grief, and I hope that they may take some small comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will continue to live on.”
