CONGRESSWOMAN LAWRENCE HOSTS LAWRENCE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT DURING INDIAN PRIME MINISTER’S ADDRESS TO CONGRESS

WASHINGTON, DC. - Today, Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) hosted Lawrence Technological University President Virinder K. Moudgil during a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress featuring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Today, Prime Minister Moudgil made history in the U.S. The Prime Minister’s speech today highlighted the traits of freedom and democracy that bond our two great nations. The Prime Minister’s words today demonstrate India’s commitment to model a sense of development and progress in partnership with the U.S. Modi’s words will serve to develop a more robust relationship with the U.S. and promote a new role of development for both countries,” said Congresswoman Lawrence.

“I am thankful for the presence of my good friend President Moudgil during today’s speech. The Prime Minister’s words of partnership reminded me of the strong relationship President Moudgil and I have developed throughout my career of public service. The investment Lawrence Technical University has made to my district and region is invaluable. I will continue to advocate for education and promotion of opportunity within Michigan’s 14th Congressional District and throughout the country.”

“I was honored to be invited by Congresswoman Lawrence to listen to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi’s address laid the foundation of commonality and mutual interest between the U.S. and India, marking the importance of partnership between countries,” said President Moudgil.

“I am thankful for the Congresswoman’s support of her constituency and of Lawrence Technical University. My partnership with the Congresswoman dates back to her tenure as Mayor of Southfield where we sought opportunities for education and business development. I witnessed first-hand the Congresswoman’s commitment to her region and community and it gives me great pleasure to continue my work with her. I look forward to continuing to partner with her office and am pleased to support her initiatives in Southfield and throughout her district.”

This event marks Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to the U.S., during which he will meet with President Barack Obama, business leaders, and think-tank chiefs. Mr. Modi’s speech celebrates India-U.S. ties as both countries seek to strengthen their engagement.
