Congresswoman Lawrence on Recent ICE Raids in Michigan
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) statement on recent ICE raids where over 100 individuals were apprehended and placed in detention:
“I am very alarmed by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that resulted in the detention and possible removal of Iraqi nationals including Chaldeans and Muslims from the Detroit community on Sunday, June 11, 2017. After personally speaking with ICE leadership from the Detroit area, I am concerned about what seems to be a lack of official policy on targeted individuals with final orders for removal.
“These raids have a significant impact on our communities and the potential for great harm to those who may be forced to return to life-threatening environments. Further information for clarity and community expectations were requested and we hope to receive a quick, clear and concise response from ICE.”
