Congresswoman Lawrence Statement on Bipartisan Budget Agreement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (MI-14) issued the following statement Tuesday regarding the announcement of an agreement on the FY2016 budget.
“Last night’s unveiling of the bipartisan budget agreement marked an important step toward moving beyond some bitter bipartisan issues that have left Congress, and much of American, paralyzed. I must make clear, however, that for me to cast a vote in support of any budget agreement it must prioritize funding for programs and services that hard-working Americans and their families need and deserve.
These priorities must include protecting benefits and programs for our seniors, disabled Americans, and veterans, including Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. These priorities must also include guarding against budget riders that threaten environmental and consumer protections, the constitutional and reproductive rights of women, and the rights of all hard-working Americans to make their voices heard in the workplace.”
I want my constituents in Michigan’s 14th District to know with absolute certainty that I will carefully consider all of their needs as part of my review process and that I remain committed to passing a budget agreement that benefits all Americans.”
