LAWRENCE STATEMENT ON DALLAS SHOOTINGS AND DEATHS OF ALTON STERLING AND PHILANDO CASTILE

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) issued the following statement on the shooting in Dallas, Texas and shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile:

“As a citizen of the United States, I am heartbroken by the tragedy we have experienced this week as a nation. The deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and the officers in Dallas are unacceptable.

“We must no longer plea, no longer request, no longer ignore the outpouring of heartbreak our nation has experienced.  To wait another day is to give up on another American life. We must demand justice. Justice for our police officers, our children, and our nation. We must address the crisis of gun violence in America.

“In the spirit of nonviolence, we must peacefully work together to provide relief to our communities and every person who has lost a loved one to gun violence. I am determined to speak out for my consistency and force this Congress to do their jobs. It is time for action and that time is now.”
