LAWRENCE STATEMENT ON THE POLICE SHOOTING IN BATON ROUGE

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence released the following statement following the brutal attack on officers in Baton Rouge today:

"This morning, I am again saddened by yet another senseless act of gun violence. The death of the three officers in Baton Rouge and their colleagues who remain in critical condition is a tragedy. While we do not have all of the information at this moment, we do know that this is an attack on us all and far too often a reality in this country.

We have marched, we have spoken, and we have prayed for an end to gun violence. But it isn't enough. We must keep peace in our communities and work together to end this epidemic. Not only for ourselves but for our children and the future of this great, resilient nation.

On Friday, House Republicans left Washington without a vote to end the epidemic of gun violence in America. Ignoring the over 90 families who experience the pain of losing a loved one daily or the 300,000 Americans who lose their lives each year to gun violence. It is time for relief for our country and that time is now.

My prayers are with the officers that were killed and injured in Baton Rouge today and their families. I pray that America can come together as a country in this time of sadness and disappointment."
