U.S. Rep. Lawrence Applauds DTE Energy for $70 Million Investment to Combat Weather-Related Power Outages
Detroit, MI - Today, U.S. Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) applauded DTE Energy for announcing a $70 million investment for tree trimming and tree removal in response to weather-related power outages. According to DTE Energy, trees are responsible for almost all of the time DTE customers are without power during extreme high wind events.
“Southeast Michigan has experienced several thousand-year floods and extreme weather events in a short period of time. The resulting power outages and heavy floods have been disruptive and devastating to the 14th District,” said Rep. Lawrence. “In my conversations with DTE leadership and other local leaders, I’ve shared how unacceptable it is that Michiganders are feeling left behind in the aftermath of these storms. I applaud DTE energy for this much-needed and significant investment right here in our communities. I’ll continue to work with them and all our leaders to ensure the people in the 14th District, and the entire Metro Detroit, don’t lose power every time we have a severe weather event. This is sounding the alarm that we must fix, upgrade, and strengthen our infrastructure—including water systems, the electric grid, roads, and bridges—and I’ll continue to fight in Congress to ensure we make these critical and long overdue investments.”
