U.S. Rep Lawrence Sworn into the 117th Congress for Fourth Term
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) issued the following statement after being sworn into the 117th Congress. This is her fourth term as a member of the United States House of Representatives.
“I’m humbled and honored to serve the people of Michigan’s 14th Congressional District for another term. Just like my first day in Congress, I’ll continue to fight for my constituents and advance policies to protect healthcare, support education, and fix our broken criminal justice system,” said Rep. Lawrence. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, especially as this pandemic continues to devastate our country. Congress has a responsibility to help keep our communities safe and put our economy back on track. I’ll continue to use my voice on the House Appropriations and Oversight Committees to make sure our government works for the American people in Michigan and across the country.”
In the 117th Congress, Rep Lawrence will hold several leadership roles, including the Co-Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Second Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Black-Jewish Relations. Rep Lawrence will be the only African American serving in the Michigan delegation.
