Washington, DC - Today, Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) applauded House passage of the “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act,” which includes over $16.2 million in federal funding for seven projects in Michigan's 14th Congressional District. The projects are located in the following cities: Southfield, Farmington Hills, Sylvan Lake, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Township, Hamtramck, Pontiac, and the City of Detroit. The legislation also includes two of Rep. Lawrence’s amendments which promote a more diverse workforce and more inclusive work sites for infrastructure projects and require a GAO report on affordability, discrimination, and civil rights violations in water and sewer services nationwide.

“I can’t stress enough how critical it is to fix and upgrade our infrastructure in Michigan and across the country. The historic floods we experienced this past weekend underscore the urgency of this issue. Today, I’m proud to have secured seven transportation and infrastructure projects for Michigan’s 14th Congressional District,” said Rep. Lawrence. “The INVEST in America Act will be transformational for our communities, make historic investments in our infrastructure, and create good-paying jobs. In addition to the over $16.2 million in funding I’m bringing back, the legislation includes two of my amendments. One of which promotes diversity in our workforce and the other ensures our constituents have access to safe, affordable drinking water. This legislation lays the groundwork for more significant infrastructure investments and is a huge step in building back better.”
